Seismic Team Awarded – Feb 08
At the end of each quarter, BP in Azerbaijan recognises outstanding health, safety and environmental achievements by its employees and contractors with the distribution of President's awards. During fourth quarter 2007 BP was mobilising three vessels from its long term Caspian Sea charter fleet for use in ocean bottom seismic operations. In recognition of a safe mobilisation campaign the extended BP Azerbaijan Seismic Operations team, which includes all contractors, sub-contractors, consultants and BP staff involved in this significant undertaking, was recognised with a President's Award in January 2008. The activities included the mobilisation of the Pacific Raider for the second round of surveys in the Chirag Azeri Reservoir Seismic Project (CARSP) where WGP Projects is acting as project manager and providing a large proportion of the cable lay and seismic crew. The relative remoteness of Azerbaijan and the limited amount of good dock facilities available to seismic and survey operations make any seismic mobilisation a challenging exercise. Building on lessons learnt during the initial mobilisation for CARSP in 4Q 2006 and continuing the excellent HSE culture developed by the crew during the first half of 2007, the CARSP re-mobilisation was significantly quicker second time round and, more importantly, was carried out with no HSE incidents. The photo shows some of the senior members of the CARSP cable lay crew in front of the Pacific Raider, having just received a replica of the reward from BP's local Geophysical Operations Manager.
